The South African chapter of the Trump fan club – Biznews, Politicsweb,
Daily Friend, columnists Simon Lincoln-Reader, John Kane-Berman et al and
commentators – try very hard to explain Trump’s outrageous actions. Mostly, they just ignore it ostrich-like (BN banned me when I wrote they ignored Black Lives Matters protests that Trump had inflamed).
Ironically, with the shocking revelations in US’ former national security advisor John Bolton’s new book The Room Where It Happened, Trump has done what they
accuse the ANC of doing: kowtowing to China, ignoring human rights abuses by
China and other countries, halting criminal investigations to favour dictators and nefarious people and doing business deals with them.
1.
Trump pleaded with China’s Xi to help win the
2020 election.
2.
He suggested he wanted more than two terms in
office.
3.
Trump offered favours to dictators.
4.
He praised Xi for China’s concentration camps.
5.
He defended Saudi Arabia’s crown prince Mohammed
bin Salman over the killing of Jamal Khashoggi.
6.
He thought Finland was part of Russia and didn’t
know the UK was a nuclear power.
7.
He thought it was “cool” to invade Venezuela.
Late show hosts call Trump amazingly “dumb” and the “dumbest”.
Although evidence of his corruption is not surprising, it’s still possible to
be shocked.
But this won’t make any difference to his fanatical
supporters like this woman in the Californian city of Ventura who gave a
ranting speech against the city’s ruling about wearing masks and supporting Trump.
