The DA's and party leader Mmusi Maimane's water management campaign is "We Can Defeat Day Zero". This has been eagerly taken up by the credulous media as a rallying cry.
Why do
politicians like speaking in terms of 'defeat' and war? Even 'Day Zero'
has an ominous ring, like 'Defcon' and 'Ground Zero'. And from a pastor
too. (By the way, if there's a war, they'd be the last to volunteer.)
Defeat means there's an 'enemy'. So natural occurrences like drought and climate change are enemies now? We can't 'defeat' Day Zero - we can help prevent it. Anyway, strictly speaking, we can't 'defeat' an 'enemy', and an intangible one at that, that has not shown itself. Has a declaration of war being issued? Maimane, the War Minister? Delusions of grandeur, methinks.
As Joelien Pretorius writes on The Conversation, 'anarchy' on the streets, 'World War 2' and '9/11' that Helen Zille ominously, and exaggeratedly, warned will happen when the taps run dry is 'false framing' to pursue a 'security' agenda.
This shows how Absolutely Fatuous the DA are. Maimane and Zille, the new AbFab duo. But without the sense of humour and wit of the latter two.
What they're doing is shifting and demonising residents, government, Father Christmas and Tooth Fairy rather than look at the viper's nest (apologies to snakes that serve a purpose in nature, unlike politicians), corruption and incompetence at city hall, Wale St and DA headquarters.
Like the Rooi Gevaar of old, we have the Residents Gevaar that victorious and brave Wonder Woman Helen and Skaka Zulu Mmusi shall 'defeat'.
Instead of inspiring and instilling courage, determination and fortitude like Winston Churchill did after the defeat at Dunkirk, this Absolutely Fatuous duo evokes fear, intimidation and suspicion among the populace: constant bullying and blame, spying on neighbours by Big Brother water map satellite imagery and evoking visions of a walking dead 'anarchy' in a 'WW2 and 9/11' scenarios as the Residents Gevaar goes on a rampage of looting and pillaging when the taps run dry.
What shall self-appointed and self-righteous guardians of their insignificant political galaxies do? Why, continue blaming the Residents Gevaar and Swart Gevaar aka ANC government of course.
